Next steps towards your registration

We’ve checked your eligibility and reviewed your qualification and we’re happy to tell you that you can apply to join our register.

Your qualification isn’t comparable to an NMC approved programme, so you’ll need to take a test of competence to continue with your application.

Taking the test of competence

The test is in two parts and you can take them in any order:

·       a theory based, multiple choice exam known as the CBT

·       a practical test known as the OSCE

The CBT provider, Pearson Vue, will email you to let you know how to arrange your test.

You’ll need to book the OSCE with one of our OSCE providers. Please note the Nursing Associate test is only currently available at the University of Northampton.

The deadline for passing the test

You need to pass both parts of the test of competence within two years of each other. If you are unable to complete OSCE within 2 years of CBT, you may need to re-take CBT.

Other requirements for registration

While you prepare for your test of competence, you can start completing your registration application form. To access the form, log in to your NMC Online account.

We’ll be asking you to provide information about your health, character and English language skills. We recommend that you review our registration requirements and complete our pre-application checklist to make sure you’re ready to apply.

If you are submitting OET results for your English language evidence, you must ensure that you provide 'verifier access' to NMC via your OET portal.

Document verification

When you attend your OSCE you’ll need to bring the originals of all the documents you uploaded to your application. Failure to bring the documents will delay your application progressing to the next stage. Please use the checklist below to ensure you have all the documents you’ll need on the day.

·      Original passport that was submitted as part of your application. If that has expired you must also bring your new passport

·      Original change of name documents e.g. birth certificate, marriage certificate, civil partnership, and deed of name change

·      Original police clearance certificates from all the countries/states that you have resided in for more than 12 months within the last 10 years

·      Original diploma or degree certificate

·      Original registration certificates from all of the countries/states that you have practised and/or registered with

We won’t accept copies of any of the documents listed above.

We wish you every success with your test of competence.

Yours sincerely

Emma Broadbent, Director of Registration and Revalidation
