My Story

I know it is hard to learn a new thing. Ali Abdaal, one of the most popular YouTubers who talks about productivity, introduced two fundamental techniques for effective learning: active recall and spaced repetition.

Through this theory, he introduced Anki, a flashcard software to do revision in this way. I first discovered AnkiApp in the App store, and I finally realised it was a copycat of the original Anki.

My user experience of the AnkiApp was okay but better in Anki. Although Anki doesn't have an appealing graphic, which makes it a little bit not shine at first glance, I finally discovered its power of it. I will discuss it if I can organize my thought.

Essentials of Anki

  • Basic flashcards
  • Reverse flashcards - basically you can forget about that
    • remember flashcards from front and also back
  • Cloze deletions
    • Text and extra
    • act as "fill in the blank"
    • add :: after your cloze ans
  • Image occlusion - 1374772155
    • Tools ➡️ Add-ons (Shift + Cmd + A)
    • Good for learning charts, maps and diagrams with the principle of active recall
