  • I have the equipment, it is a spacer, I can see it is dry, clean and intact, and it is within 12 months so I can still use it and I'm happy to use this one.
  • Next is I have my salbutamol, I can see that the expiry date is 2023 and this is 100 micrograms so I'm gonna give two puffs
  • So first we need to open the cap, make sure there are no obstructions or some foreign objects inside it. And you make sure to shake it for two to five seconds then we are gonna to use the spacer. We're gonna to use this one to help the medication go through your lungs because if we're not using this spacer, it might lodge into your throat and to your mouth. Next you're gonna attach the inhaler to your spacer and make sure to open the cap. So after you attach the spacer and the inhaler, you need to exhale completely and put your mouth into the mouthpiece and make sure there are no air escaping through the mouth piece and then you need to depress the canister
  • Once after you depress the canister you need to breathe
  • We have two techniques on how to inhale the medication.
  • Single Breathe Technique
    • breathe in slowly for 2-3 seconds and hold the breathe for approximately 10 seconds, then remove MDI from mouth before exhaling slowly through pursed lips.
  • Tidal breathing or multi-breath technique:
    • if the person can't hold their breath for more than five seconds, breathing in and out steadily for five times.
  • Rest for 30-60 seconds if it is the same medications
  • if it is a different medication, rest for 2-3 minutes.
  • Make sure to shake it before dose
  • you can clean it with soap and water
